Archaeological surveying is used to assist the archaeologist in accurately documenting an archaeologically sensitive site. Throughout all phases of the archaeological investigation the surveyor is there to protect and preserve the limits of archaeologically sensitive areas.
Archaeological surveys can be provided for the following purposes:
- Setting accurate grid lines
- Test hole locations
- Pit locations
- Staking of restrictive perimeters and signage
- Preparation of suggested legal descriptions for protected areas
